12 Suggestions To Aid Sleep

back

Take time to make yourself available sleep.

Use the latter part of the evening to wind down.

Have some relaxing cue which will indicate bed-time is approaching. e.g. soft music.

Make sure you are warm and comfortable.

Have alternative strategies to hand if sleep does not happen immediately.

Avoid lying in bed getting irritated because sleep has not occurred.

Learn to be at peace with yourself.

Discharge any unhelpful thoughts which might preoccupy you - write down the thought on a piece of paper and leave it in a draw or in another room, and separate yourself from this unhelpful situation.

Avoid large meals immediately before retiring for the night.

Have a light snack or a warm drink of your choice.

Avoid stimulants such as coffee, tea, tobacco, etc.

Feel secure within your bed - maybe even add extra pillows, or something to cuddle.
