12 Suggestions To Aid Sleep

Take time to make yourself available sleep. |

Use the latter part of the evening to wind down. |
· |
Have some relaxing cue which will indicate bed-time is approaching. e.g. soft music. |

Make sure you are warm and comfortable. |
· |
Have alternative strategies to hand if sleep does not happen immediately. |
· |
Avoid lying in bed getting irritated because sleep has not occurred. |
· |
Learn to be at peace with yourself. |
· |
Discharge any unhelpful thoughts which might preoccupy you - write down the thought on a piece of paper and leave it in a draw or in another room, and separate yourself from this unhelpful situation. |

Avoid large meals immediately before retiring for the night. |
· |
Have a light snack or a warm drink of your choice. |
· |
Avoid stimulants such as coffee, tea, tobacco, etc. |
· |
Feel secure within your bed - maybe even add extra pillows, or something to cuddle. |
