12 Suggestions To Aid Sleep

Take time to make yourself available sleep.

·

Use the latter part of the evening to wind down.

·

Have some relaxing cue which will indicate bed-time is approaching. e.g. soft music.

·

Make sure you are warm and comfortable.

·

Have alternative strategies to hand if sleep does not happen immediately.

·

Avoid lying in bed getting irritated because sleep has not occurred.

·

Learn to be at peace with yourself.

·

Discharge any unhelpful thoughts which might preoccupy you - write down the thought on a piece of paper and leave it in a draw or in another room, and separate yourself from this unhelpful situation.

·

Avoid large meals immediately before retiring for the night.

·

Have a light snack or a warm drink of your choice.

·

Avoid stimulants such as coffee, tea, tobacco, etc.

·

Feel secure within your bed - maybe even add extra pillows, or something to cuddle.
